    Principal's Message

    Dear Brooklyn Avenue School Families,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce myself as your new principal of Brooklyn Avenue School.  I have dedicated the last fifteen years of my life to the communities of Boyle Heights and South L.A. in numerous capacities: as a classroom teacher, teacher leader, EL program adviser, and school administrator. I have worked collaboratively with all members of the school and local community to ensure students graduate with the necessary skills to be successful throughout their school years and into college, careers, and the future. I am honored and humbled to have this opportunity to lead a school community with such a rich history of excellence.

Nothing excites me more than seeing the faces of children learning! I am passionate about teaching and learning, about offering all children a high-quality education, and about fostering an environment that is positive, safe, and student-centered.  Children deserve to walk into a school every day that challenges them academically, builds their character, and prepares them to solve real-world problems thoughtfully and creatively.  I commit to you that I will do my very best to ensure we continue and build upon the Road Runner tradition of excellence.

We cannot hope to achieve these goals without teachers, parents, and the community as our partners in education. I value the talents and knowledge you bring to our school and feel very strongly that your role is vital to the success of students. Throughout the school year, we will offer many opportunities for you to be involved; I encourage you to play an active part in helping all our children thrive.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have throughout the year regarding your child’s progress.  Working together, we can have a profound impact on the lives of every single student.

I look forward to meeting you all very soon.

    Marissa Martínez, Principal
